Blackstone Inc. executive Wesley LePatner has been named as one of the four people killed in the mass shooting in New York on Monday evening.

At the height of the evening rush, a man double-parked his BMW on Park Avenue, calmly strode across a public plaza with an assault-style rifle in his hand, stepped into the lobby and opened fire. Glass shattered in the lobby and bodies lay still. Office workers sprinted out of the building or scrambled for cover.

The guard had been fatally shot as he crouched behind a desk to take cover as the gunman sprayed the building’s lobby with bullets, police said.

Investigators believe Shane Tamura, of Las Vegas, was trying to get up to the NFL offices after shooting several people in the lobby on Monday but entered the wrong elevator bank, Mayor Eric Adams said in interviews.

The New York Police Department said shots were fired at the building that houses Blackstone, KPMG, and other businesses on Monday evening.
