An off-duty officer fatally shot a knife-wielding man inside the Chick-fil-A on Boylston Street in Boston. It happened just before 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Police said that two people ran inside the restaurant while being chased by a man wielding a knife.

Police on Monday identified the person who was fatally shot by an off-duty police officer inside a Chick-fil-A restaurant in the Back Bay as a 32-year-old Roslindale man.

The Boston Police Detectives Union praised the actions of an off-duty officer who authorities say shot and killed a knife-wielding suspect​ inside a city Chick-fil-A.

Two people were chased inside Chick-fil-A on Boylston Street around 5:27 p.m. by a man armed with a knife, officials said.

The officer tried to de-escalate the situation but the suspect allegedly refused to comply, prompting the officer to fatally shoot him, police said.

The incident occurred around 5:27 p.m. when two individuals ran into the crowded Back Bay restaurant, attempting to escape a man wielding a knife.
