Interstate 40 through the Pigeon River Gorge could reopen this spring. Here's the latest on reconstruction after Hurricane Helene.

Gov. Josh Stein said Monday that the stretch of Interstate 40 connecting North Carolina to Tennessee will reopen in less than three weeks. This part of I-40, a major commercial corridor, has been closed for more than four months since Hurricane Helene devastated the area.

Stein said one lane of I-40 will reopen in each direction near the Tennessee-North Carolina state line, although I-40 will remain a construction zone, writing on X: "We will reope
