The Netherlands Friday scheduled a snap election for October 29 following the collapse of the government caused by the far-right Party for Freedom leaving the governing coalition.

Dutch opposition parties are calling for fresh elections as soon as possible, a day after anti-Islam lawmaker Geert Wilders sparked the collapse of the country’s four-party coalition government.

Like other major economies in the European Union, the Netherlands has grown increasingly fragmented as parties struggle to reach consensus on sensitive topics such as immigration.
