The first round of the US Open was mostly frustrating for Shane Lowry, although he also had a moment to make history at Oakmont.

American J.J. Spaun, who imploded against Lowry’s pal, Rory McIlroy, in a playoff at the Players Championship in March, held a solo lead after shooting a 4-under 66 to close out his first round. Leading up to this year’s U.S. Open, Lowry was among the chorus of players who vocalized how strenuous playing Oakmont can be.

The US Open is underway from Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania. There, the course has proven to be a challenge. Irish golfer Shane Lowry had been struggling in the First Round, that is until he managed to make an eagle from 160 yards out.
