CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating a homicide after a man was shot and killed late Friday night in Uptown. CMPD says officers were called to the intersection of 7th and Davidson streets around 11 p.m. and found a victim who had been shot.

Currently, we have our homicide and crime scene units out here actively working the scene,” a police major said.

The city of Charlotte on Monday introduced Estella Patterson as its new chief of police. She will succeed Johnny Jennings, who is retiring at the end of the year. Patterson started her career at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department in 1996, and spent 25 years there before leaving to become Raleigh’s chief of police from 2021 to 2025.
