National Weather Service data shows at least two tornadoes formed in Iowa Friday. The pair of twisters touched down on opposite sides of the state. The first tornado appeared around 3:45 p.m. in a field a few miles northeast of Clarinda. No damage was reported, so the short-lived tornado was rated an EF-Unknown.

Severe thunderstorm warnings and flash flood warnings were in effect across central Iowa, and high winds even knocked out power overnight. Wind gusts reached 74 mph at the Des Moines International Airport.

Severe thunderstorms are expected Friday afternoon and evening across the Midwest to southern portions of the Great Lakes region, accompanied by a risk for damaging wind gusts, hail and some tornadoes.
