Israeli fire has killed eight people in the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours even as a fragile ceasefire with Hamas has largely held.

Five Palestinians, including a 60-year-old woman, were killed by Israeli forces in Jenin over the past 24 hours, the Palestinian Authority said on Tuesday, adding to a growing toll from one of the largest operations seen in the West Bank in years.

The raid took place as Israel’s military said it had expanded its operation to crack down on militants in the city of Jenin.

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israeli forces killed a Hamas commander in the West Bank city of Jenin on Tuesday as they pushed ahead with a weeks-long operation against militant groups in the area that has sent tens of thousands of Palestinians fleeing their homes.

Hamas described Israel’s actions as “a serious violation of international law and a blatant war crime committed in full view of the world.”

An Israeli military operation has uprooted tens of thousands of Palestinians who can’t break their fast in their own homes and don’t know when, or if, they will ever return.

Israel has killed eight people in the Gaza Strip and five more in the West Bank in the past 24 hours, Palestinian officials have said. It comes as a fragile ceasefire in Gaza between Israel and Hamas - which came into effect on 19 January - largely holds.

Nearly 40,000 Palestinians driven from their homes by Israel's month-long offensive in the West Bank have scattered across nearby villages and towns, trying to find shelter.

The IDF killed three terrorists and arrested 35 wanted terrorists during an overnight operation in the West Bank, the IDF announced on Tuesday. Among the 35 terrorists that were arrested were Hamas-affiliated terrorists.
