MONROE COUNTY, MI – The Newport woman who drove into the Swan Creek Boat Club last year, killing two children and injuring several more people has been convicted on two counts of second degree murder.

Marshella Chidester was tried on two counts of second degree murder for the deaths of Zayn Phillips, 4, and his sister, Alanah Phillips, 8.

Marshella Chidester's attorney rested his case after calling one witness Thursday morning. On Wednesday, he called a Monroe County Sheriff's Office lieutenant and the bartender who served Chidester to the stand after the prosecution rested its case.
