Afghan Rahmanullah Lakanwal had a comfortable life and a cozy apartment in Washington state, but allegedly returned the favor by opening fire on two National Guard troops protecting Washington, DC.

The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Rahmanullah Lakanwal, was shot moments after the attack and was hospitalized in serious condition.

While Lakanwal began as a security guard for the unit in 2012, he later ascended to a team leader and GPS specialist, said the cousin who did not want to be publicly identified.
