Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Wednesday directed lawmakers to redraw the state’s congressional map as part of a special session that kicks off later this month, as the GOP seeks to retain its narrow US House majority after next year’s midterm elections.
Hundreds gathered at a Texas stadium to honor the 120 flood victims; the governor urged better disaster preparedness.
The governor was quick to request federal assistance last week after devastating floods hit the Texas Hill Country.
The claim spread widely on social media after the floods that devastated the Lone Star State in early July 2025.
At least 119 people have been found dead in nearly a week since heavy rainfall overwhelmed the river and flowed through homes and youth camps in the early morning hours of July 4. Ninety-five of those killed were in the hardest-hit county in central Texas, Kerr County, where the toll includes at least three dozen children.
Flags are half-staff across Texas today, as Gov. Greg Abbott ordered them lowered to honor the victims of the deadly Texas floods.
