The Islanders are interested in two members of the Canucks. We reported a few weeks ago that the New York Islanders had inquired about Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson. Per industry sources, the Islanders still have tremendous interest in Pettersson.

The New York Islanders have gone streaking in January – they lost three games in a row to start the month, then won three games on their road trip, then lost back-to-back games on Jan.

The Islanders scored three goals in five minutes and four seconds to secure the victory on home ice. Bo Horvat tied the game at one all for the veteran’s 15th goal of the season from Matt Barzal and Adam Pelech.

This was the sort of effort which, if the Islanders could replicate it consistently, makes them look like a playoff contender.

The New York Islanders (18-20-7) snapped their two-game skid with a 4-1 win over the lowly San Jose Sharks (14-28-6) on Saturday night. The Islanders fueled their win with a strong second period, scoring three goals.

Goals from Barzal, Nelson, Dobson, and Pulock carry the Islanders to victory on Brent Sutter’s Islanders Hall of Fame induction night.

They played connected, fast hockey in a matchup of last place teams to snap a two-game losing streak. Before the game, the team inducted Brent Sutter into its Hall of Fame.

- The Sharks are in eighth place in the Pacific Division with 34 points and a record of 14-27-6. San Jose is 1-4-0 in their last five games. - Mikael Granlund leads the Sharks in assists (25) and points (37) in his second season with San Jose.

The New York Islanders suffered their second straight loss, falling 5-3 at the hands of the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday night at UBS Arena.

Ryan Poehling went down with an injury in the first period, but the Flyers rallied as five different players scored a goal in the win.
