Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid has been a long-time teammate with forward Connor Brown. The two stars had first played together during their time in the OHL with the Erie Otters.
Fair to say that McDavid, who turns 28 today, has lived up to the hype that preceded him. He belongs in that small class of Canadian hockey superheroes who were already national celebrities by 16: among them Bobby Orr, Wayne Gretzky, Eric Lindros, Sidney Crosby.
Bassin has so many anecdotes about McDavid’s time with the Otters, starting with his first scrimmage with the team. McDavid, ever humble, wore his old minor hockey gear instead of Otters colors because he hadn’t made the team yet.
