The Chicago Blackhawks took on the Colorado Avalanche on Monday night and they played a solid game. The difference in the game, besides Scott Wedgewood in the net for Colorado, was the playmaking of Nathan MacKinnon.
It was no surprise to Avalanche Head Coach Jared Bednar that MacKinnon downplayed his accomplishment that saw him join Joe Sakic and Peter Stastny as the only players in franchise history to reach 1,000 points.
Despite a 3-0 loss for the Chicago Blackhawks — their first shutout — the game seemed to confirm a turning point for the takeover of the team by its young core.
Wasting no time, MacKinnon came out flying. And with just over 12 minutes into the first period, he set up Martin Necas for a goal, seemingly locking in his historic point. The entire Avalanche team came off the bench and skated onto the ice to celebrate with their star.
Ahead of key game against Nathan MacKinnon and the Colorado Avalanche, Chicago Blackhawks head coach Anders Sorensen sent a powerful statement to a rookie making his NHL debut.
