California voters are preparing for a pivotal special election that may affect congressional boundaries, with mail-in ballots already being returned.

People can still register for the Proposition 50 special election using same-day or conditional voting. SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The last day to register to vote or update your voter registration online was Oct. 20; however, people can still cast their ballots for the Proposition 50 special election using same-day or conditional voting.

The proposal would establish new congressional districts that favor Democrats until after the 2030 census, suspending the state’s independent citizens redistricting commission that’s been in place for 15 years.
