American Freight is part of Delaware-based Franchise Group Inc.’s holdings. The closure of the furniture and appliance chain is part of the company’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization plan announced earlier this month.

Franchise Group cited "sustained inflation and macroeconomic challenges facing the large durable goods sector" as reasons to shut down 300-plus locations.

The Tacoma location of American Freight will close along with the other 327 stores in the United States. The parent company of the nationwide appliance and furniture store, Franchise Group, began Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings in federal court in Delaware.

The store closing announcement comes days after American Freight's parent company announced restructuring as part of a bankruptcy filing.

Over 300 American Freight stores are closing nationwide, two of which are in Central Illinois. The chain furniture store operates in dozens of states. In Central Illinois, locations include Champaign and Decatur.
