Police say the suspect was arrested for raping a woman at a hotel before discovering he'd traveled from Chicago to Evansville to steal a backhoe from a Home Depot.

"This is exactly the result we were expecting. What he was charged with was simply absurd. This was a case that never should have been brought forward," his attorney said.
