As President Donald Trump's special envoy and his son-in-law were in a private meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin Tuesday.

US envoy Steve Witkoff and advisor Jared Kushner flew into Moscow on December 2 to meet Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin for a renewed push to end the war in Ukraine. After a nearly five‑hour session, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov confirmed that no compromise was reached — especially over territorial issues — and negotiations remain stalled.

A major part of the new sanctions targets Rosneft and Lukoil, two of Russia’s most important oil companies. By placing sanctions on these companies, Ukraine aims to reduce the financial strength that Russia gains from its energy exports.

The Kremlin said on Wednesday that President Vladimir Putin had accepted some U.S. proposals to end the war in Ukraine and rejected others and that Russia was ready to meet U.S. negotiators as many times as it took to reach an agreement.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told the Izvestia newspaper in an interview published Wednesday that Russia sees "no grounds for negotiations yet" to end Moscow's war.
