Spirit Airlines has announced pilot workforce reductions and flight cuts as part of efforts to realign operations with demand.

Spirit Airlines is downsizing its pilot force before it reduces its overall flight schedule. On July 28, the low-cost carrier announced that it will furlough 270 pilots this fall. It will also downgrade another 140 pilots from captains to first officers.

Spirit Airlines confirmed plans to furlough pilots and downgrade captains this fall, as the airline prepares to shrink its network in an effort to turn a profit.
