The national championships in Auburn football 's history multiplied Tuesday morning, as the program is now recognizing nine national titles.

The school announced that it would be retiring Newton’s No. 2 number after he led the football program to a national title in 2010 and won the Heisman Trophy. He is one of the best players in Auburn history and is only the fourth Auburn player to ever have his number retired, joining Bo Jackson, Pat Sullivan, and Terry Beasley.
