Representative Adriano Espaillat, the most powerful Latino leader in New York City, will back Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic candidate for mayor.

In the poll by Slingshot Strategies, first reported by the New York Post, Mamdani has 36 percent of the vote compared to former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo 's 27 percent and current New York City Mayor Eric Adams' 14 percent. Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa landed 16 percent of the vote and independent candidate Jim Walden received 2 percent.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams says former Gov. Andrew Cuomo has asked him to drop his re-election bid as the latter considers his next potential steps in the race. Adams said, when asked, in an interview with CNBC that he had indeed spoken with Cuomo since the primary.
