Chicagoans packed a far South Side church Sunday morning to honor and mourn Chicago Police Officer Enrique Martinez, who was killed in the line of duty last week. The memorial Mass was held at St. Christina Church in Mount Greenwood, a neighborhood long home to police officers and firefighters.

Many proudly adhered fallen Chicago police Officer Enrique Martinez’s face to their chests. “In loving memory,” read the buttons that were being passed out to those filing into the Mount Greenwood Catholic church to honor the slain officer’s life and service to the city.

Family, community members, and fellow officers gathered at the church and school where fallen Chicago police officer Enrique Martinez grew up for an evening mass in his memory, as the offender charged in his murder appeared in front of a Cook County judge.
