Most of north Alabama and parts of central Alabama resembled a winter wonderland Jan. 10 as a wave of cold weather brought snow and sleet to the Deep South.

These showers transitioned into freezing rain, sleet, and snow. Snow fell across Alabama between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. Warmer air entered Alabama, returning snow to sleet, freezing rain, and cold rain.

How much snow did Alabama get? In Alabama, 7.5 inches fell in Mobile, where such accumulations have not been seen in more than 60 years, according to the weather service.
