Southern California Edison is looking into whether its equipment is tied to the Eaton and Hurst Fires, its parent company said, though the cause has not been officially determined.

Southern California Edison acknowledged Thursday that videos have suggested a possible link between the utility’s equipment and the devastating Eaton Fire in Los Angeles.

The utility company said its equipment likely caused the fire but that an investigation is continuing and that they are cooperating with authorities.

Southern California Edison disclosed that its equipment might have sparked the Hurst Fire, which erupted during January’s deadly LA firestorm, the Associated Press reports. The Hurst Fire burned 1.25 square miles but caused no fatalities or structural damage.

A California utility said Thursday that its equipment likely sparked a wildfire in Los Angeles that broke out the same day as two massive blazes in the area killed at least 29 people and destroyed thousands of homes.

Edison International’s utility is looking at whether a power line retired in 1971 started the Eaton wildfire as part of a probe into the cause of the blaze that razed more than 9,000 structures.

Southern California Edison (SCE), a subsidiary of Edison International, said on Thursday that it was probing whether its equipment was associated with the ignition of two Los Angeles-area wildfires this year.

SoCal Edison said its findings to state regulars that its equipment may have caused the Eaton and Hurst fires.
