In December a federal regulator sued JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo and Bank of America, claiming the banks failed to protect hundreds of thousands of consumers from rampant fraud on Zelle, in violation of consumer financial laws.

The agency, which was virtually shuttered by President Donald Trump last month, had accused JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America and Wells Fargo of failing to protect consumers from fraud costing hundreds of millions of dollars.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau dropped its case Tuesday against the peer-to-peer payment network along with Charlotte-based Bank of America and Wells Fargo, which has its largest employment hub in the city. JPMorgan Chase was also named in the lawsuit filed in December.
