HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Your First Alert Weather Team has declared a FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY for all islands through Monday afternoon due to an elevated threat of wildfires. Strong easterly winds, especially during the daytime hours, will be able to cause any fires that occur in leeward areas to spread quickly.

A week of First Alert Weather Days is underway as a heat wave settles over the Tri-State. The first heat wave of the year began Sunday with high temperatures in the low 90s in most areas. Wednesday and Thursday are expected to be the hottest days of the year with heat indexes at 100+ degrees,

CBS News New York's Vanessa Murdock says the best chance for severe weather will happen on Monday and Tuesday as the area deals with temperatures in the upper 80s with high humidity.
