Every F1 car has a wood-composite plank (aka, skid block) on the bottom. It’s there to prevent teams from running the car too low to the ground, which would give them an aerodynamic advantage. The rules say you can’t wear it down by more than 1 millimeter during a race.
McLaren’s double disqualification has dramatically changed the complexities of the 2025 F1 world championship battle and brought Max Verstappen back into contention. Norris and Oscar Piastri were thrown out of the race after finishing second and fourth because their MCL39s were found to have excessive skid-block wear.
