We’re once again visiting the Bingham Canyon Mine operated by Rio Tinto Kennecott this week. Said to be the world’s largest man-made excavation, the main pit is 2.5 miles wide and 3/4 of a mile deep. Mining started here in 1863, and it remains one of America’s most essential and valuable mining operations.
