I wrote this for the Cider Museum in Hereford - the inspiration was Millais’ painting “Apple Blossoms”, also called “Spring”. It’s a colourful pre-Raphaelite scene in an apple orchard in which beautifully dressed characters picnic under the thick lattices of interlocking branches and leaves of the apple trees. I tried to capture this through a sweeping romanticism combined with piano textures in which the counterpoints frequently meander and intersect, much like the leaves. • #piano #classicalmu
