The original bronze head of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah's statue that used to be in front of the old Parliament House in Accra got vandalized during the military coup on February 24, 1966. A concerned citizen found it later and handed it over to the Information Services Department, which then placed it in the park on May 28, 2009. It was officially set up in the park on September 1, 2009. | Tafarixafrik

This is the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum which houses the mortal remains of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and his wife Fathia Nkrumah. The Mausoleum was built to represent an upside-down sword which in the Akan culture is a symbol of peace. The mausoleum is clad from top to bottom with Italian marble, with a black star at its apex to symbolize unity. The interior of the Mausoleum boasts marble flooring and a mini mastaba looking marble grave marker surrounded by river-washed rocks. #iLoveGhana 🇬🇭 📷@will4go |
