Phyllis had always held the first African-American Super Model, Naomi Sims, in high regard ever since their high school days in the All City Choir. And it's easy to understand why Phyllis continued her admiration for Naomi throughout the years. In the late 60s, Naomi was the first AA model to grace the covers of Ladies' Home Journal and Life Magazine. She never accepted a "no" from anyone, promoting herself when modeling agencies turned her down. She refused movie roles she felt were undermining

Phyllis's entree into the world of radio began with her long-standing friendship with Maye Hampton James-Holler, who took Phyllis's 1976 song, "Baby", to radio. Maye was the VP of promotions at Desert Moon/Roadshow Records - the first label to sign Phyllis. Sadly, Maye passed away earlier this month. Thank you, Maye, for all you did for Phyllis.
