Zone training is always a hot debate, but I can only comment from experience and not necessarily what a book told me. Zone 4 for me has always had the most positive effect on races and the biggest correlation. Let me explain. In a 5 zone model, zone 1 easy, zone 2 steady - marathon, zone 3 1 hour pace, zone 4 30 mins pace or so ‘aerobic power’- zone 5 - V02 max and pretty bloody hard. Not sustainable for long. Sessions like 5-6 x 5 mins, 90 secs rest 3 x 10 minutes - 3 mins rest, can build to 4
