By the time the rain tapers down midweek, two to three inches will likely have fallen in the Charlotte metro area with up to around five inches in the mountains and foothills. Rounds of rain and stronger thunderstorms will drift up from the south throughout the day and into tonight, prompting localized flooding and even a risk for late-day severe weather.
