🏀On June 13, 1989 the Detroit Pistons completed an NBA Finals sweep of the Los Angeles Lakers with a 105-97 Game 4 victory, winning the their first NBA title in franchise history. Pistons' guard Joe Dumars was named MVP for the series after averaging 27.3 points per game. This was the first NBA championship since 1983 to be won by a team other than the Lakers or the Boston Celtics. Following the Finals loss to the Pistons, the Lakers Kareem Abdul-Jabbar officially announced his retirement at 42
