Bill “Bojangles” Robinson, was the most famous of all African American tap dancers in the twentieth century. Dancing upright and swinging, his light and exacting footwork brought tap “up on its toes” from an earlier flat-footed shuffling style, and developed the art of tap dancing to a delicate perfection. Needless to say, he was very thankful for the display of kindness, just as we are thankful for his unwavering support! | Charlottesville Police Department

Film Culture on Instagram: "Legendary tap dancer Fred Astaire praised the Nicholas Brothers; calling this performance the "greatest movie musical number he had ever seen" — a testament to their unparalleled acrobatic tap dancing that blended jazz, ballet, and vaudeville, even nailing the iconic staircase leap on the first take. The film itself, "Stormy Weather," was a major studio film featuring an entirely African-American cast, rare for the era, including Lena Horne, Bill Robinson, Fats Waller
