January 17, 1971: Baltimore Colts quarterback Johnny Unitas throws a 75 yard touchdown pass to tight end John Mackey during a 16-13 victory over the Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl V. The pass was intended for Colts receiver Eddie Hinton. Unitas's throw went off the hands of Hinton and then was deflected by Cowboys cornerback Mel Renfro straight to Mackey. Due to NFL rules at the time, if Renfro had not made contact with the ball, the play would have been nullified for illegal touching. Two consecu

January 17, 1971: Super Bowl V would be a bittersweet day for Johnny Unitas. The hall of fame quarterback would throw a 75 yard touchdown pass to tight end John Mackey. However, Unitas was knocked out of the game after taking a vicious hit to the ribs from Cowboys linebacker Lee Roy Jordan. Unitas was replaced by Earl Morrall.
